“Achieving A Strong Walk”
Many of you have requested prayer to have strength with your walk with Christ. Of course, it is prayer through our faith that brings us into our initial relationship with Christ, and because of this power of prayer, we should continue in persistent prayer throughout our Christian lives. (Remember the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-6)
If we were to put a ranking system on what a Christian should do, prayer would obviously be near or at the top of things to do as a Christian. It is through prayer that we often find the answers that we’re looking for. However, sometimes as Christians, God will grant us an answer through our prayers, but if we are not careful, we will overlook the answer.
In Exodus 14:15, “And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.’” In the Life Application Study Bible, this verse is commented on and explained like this, “The Lord told Moses to stop praying and get moving! Prayer must have a vital place in our lives, but there is also a place for action. Sometimes we know what to do, but we pray for more guidance as an excuse to postpone doing it. If we know what we should do, then it is time to get moving.”
As we ask God for strength in our Christian walk, He answers our prayers directly and points us to His Word. We read in John 1:1-5 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
What and Who is the Word?
Is there power in the Word of God?
If we know that the power of God is in His Word, will we not receive strength to walk with Him as we come to a richer understanding of His Word?
As we continue to grow in our knowledge of God, we will see His power; a power that created all things, a power that parts the sea, and calms the storms. God has given us the tool to continue in our search for His strength. That tool is The Bible. The more we dive into God’s Word, we will see just how weak as men we are, but we will understand that in our weakness we are strong because it is God that takes over in our weakness and His power is much stronger than our own abilities.
In 2 Corinthians 12:9, “And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’”
As we ask God to give us the strength to walk the path He has laid before us, remember that God is revealed in His Word. Read and study His Word daily, that you might come to a closer relationship with God. If it is truly a strong Christian walk you are looking for, He will give you strength generously through Himself. Yes, you may find that there are still some things that you need to circumcise from you life in order to be strong in your walk. But aren’t those things just weighing you down anyway?
Having a strong walk may start with prayer. Hopefully, that prayer will lead us into the Word of God. By reading the Word of God, we will receive a greater knowledge and understanding of our Creator. Once we gain this knowledge of God, we then must act on it. When we have acted on our knowledge that we have received through the word of God, we have begun to receive wisdom. If wisdom is acting on the knowledge we have received from God, would not wisdom in our Christian walk be what produces our strength to continue in our walk with Christ?
In conclusion, wisdom is what will keep us on the straight path with God. But wisdom does not come overnight. We, as Christian men, need to always be in God’s Word, so that we will understand Him and receive the wisdom we need to be strong.
Some things to consider:
1. Are you seeking a stronger walk with God?
2. How can you achieve a strong walk with God?
3. Are you in the Word daily? If so, is your walk being strengthened? If not, what can you change in your schedule to make time for God’s Word everyday?
4. As you go into God’s Word, do you ask God for clarity and understanding before beginning to read? If so, has this been helpful in understanding God’s Word? Any examples?
5. How do we become stronger in our walk with God?
